Senior Adult Ministry
Senior Adults are important here at Calvary. Our "JOY" ministry is a place for Senior Adults to fellowship and serve together.
The goal of the Joy ministry is to provide a place for our senior adults to use their gifts and talents to reach out to the community with the love and good news of Jesus. Some of the ways we reach out are: through our ministry to the homebound and shut in members of our church, by sharing God’s love with residents in local nursing homes, and by ministering to the Children who are patients in Riley Children’s Hospital. Frequently the JOY Ministry gang also supports our student ministry with prayer and financial support..
Our JOY Ministry gang also likes plain ‘ol fun and fellowship activities. Some of these include singing together, picnicking in a local park, or sharing meals together at local restaurants or the church.
JOY Ministry Highlights
Caring Hands Ministry
The Caring Hands Ministry meets to make sure our homebound members are not forgotten. This ministry makes audio CD’s and DVD’s of the services and delivers these along with weekly bulletins, takes prayer request, and sings with these special members in their homes.
Senior Adult Choir
The JOY Ministry Choir is currently retired until we find a new leader to guide us and inspire us to use all of the energy we have to lift up praises to God in song. Hopefully, we will be up and going again soon.
Nursing Home Ministry
Through a working partnership with several south-side nursing homes, The JOY Ministry frequently visits the residents of these facilities. These visits include the bringing of pillows, lap robes, bibs, favors, Christmas stockings, and parties. The Joy Ministry desires to encourage a lonely heart and share the love of Christ with those they meet.
Riley Children’s Hospital
One of the JOY Ministry's primary ministry activities is sewing for Riley Children’s Hospital. Much time and love goes into creating the surgery dolls, stuffed animals, puppy pillows, gowns, and bibs for the children of Riley. In previous years the Hilltoppers have delivered as many as 682 different articles to Riley Hospital.
The JOY Ministry's sewing projects are usually done as part of the monthly meetings. One DOES NOT need to be a seamstress or tailor in order to participate. The fellowship held around the table during the work is usually as beneficial as the work that’s accomplished. Because of the amount of stuffed items created annually, there is an on-going need for fabrics, polyester fiber-fill, towels for bibs, etc. There is also a need for pastel colored sheets for the backing of children’s quilts. If you can help support the Hilltoppers through donations of the above mentioned items, it would be greatly appreciated.
Marion Co Cancer Society
Another of the JOY Ministry's gift projects is to the Marion Co. Cancer Society. They create Mastectomy Pillows. These provide essential comfort to women in need.
Church Maintenance Projects
For those in the JOY Ministry who don’t sew, there are frequently minor maintenance projects that need attention. These include both outdoor and indoor work projects. Some of the past projects have included the maintenance of shrubbery and trees on the church grounds, and the removal of debris from the church grounds.
