Opening Scripture Reading – Psalm 47:1-7

Individual or Group Reads:

1 Clap your hands, all peoples!
shout to God with loud songs of joy!
2 For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared,
a great king over all the earth.
3 He subdued peoples under us,
and nations under our feet.
4 He chose our heritage for us,
the pride of Jacob whom he loves.
5 God has gone up with a shout,
the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises!
sing praises to our King, sing praises!
7 For God is the King of all the earth;
sing praises with a psalm!

All Hail the Power of Jesus’s Name

  1. All hail the power of Jesus' name!
    Let angels prostrate fall;
    bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all!
    Bring forth the royal diadem,
and crown him Lord of all!

  2. Ye chosen seed of Israel's race,
    ye ransomed from the fall,
hail him who saves you by his grace,
and crown him Lord of all!
Hail him who saves you by his grace,
and crown him Lord of all!

  3. O that with yonder sacred throng
we at his feet may fall!
    We'll join the everlasting song,
and crown him Lord of all.
    We'll join the everlasting song,
and crown him Lord of all.

Prayer of Hope and Assurance

Leader or Individual Prays:

Lord Jesus,
we look to you as our King
and humbly approach your throne of grace.
We think upon your sacrifice on the cross
where you shed your precious blood for our sins.
We rejoice in the empty tomb
where you rose victoriously over your foes.
We look forward to the day when we will gather with all your people
to worship and glorify your Name forever.
Come quickly King Jesus!
Amen.

Scripture Reading – Daniel 7:13-14

Individual or Group Reads:

13 I saw in the night visions,
And behold, with the clouds of heaven
there came one like a son of man,
and he came to the Ancient of Days
and was presented before him.
14 And to him was given dominion
and glory and a kingdom,
that all peoples, nations, and languages
should serve him;
his dominion is an everlasting dominion,
which shall not pass away,
and his kingdom one
that shall not be destroyed.

Ancient of Days

  1. Though the nations rage
    Kingdoms rise and fall
    There is still one King
    Reigning over all
So I will not fear for this truth remains:
That my God is the Ancient of Days

    (Refrain)

None above Him, none before Him
All of time in His hands
For His throne it shall remain and ever stand
All the power, all the glory
I will trust in His name
For my God is the Ancient of Days

  2. Though the dread of night
    Overwhelms my soul
    He is here with me
    I am not alone
O His love is sure and He knows my name
For my God is the Ancient of Days

  3. Though I may not see
    What the future brings
    I will watch and wait
    For the Saviour King
Then my joy complete standing face to face
In the presence of the Ancient of Days

Bring It Home Questions

Use these questions to lead a discussion or a time of private meditation on today’s Scriptures.

  1. In the United States, we’re used to a government that at least leaves room for people to worship God. What does verses 1-3 say is more normal?

  2. When you read the news, which stories of governments hurting their people and rebelling against God bother you the most?

  3. How do you naturally want to respond to stories like those?

  4. How do verses 4-9 help us not to fret or react with outrage when we read the news?

  5. How can we follow the example of verses 10-12, calling rulers and political opponets to worship Jesus?

Family Prayer

Before closing, ask those with you if there is anything they would like to pray for. Then offer a prayer for everyone’s requests in the room and for the list below. You can pray the whole prayer yourself or ask some in the room to pray for different things.

  • For God to glorify his name during this crisis

  • For the safety of everyone in the Indianapolis area, including your neighbors

  • For essential “front lines” workers like medical workers and first responders

  • To be able to gather for worship soon

  • For a quick economic recovery

Benediction
