Our Intern/Residency Program is one of our efforts to develop God-fearing leaders and send them into the world. We develop leadership interns for Indy’s business, families, and government offices and pastoral residents for churches anywhere.
Pastoral Residencies
Pastoral Residencies at Calvary are designed to compliment your seminary education with personal discipleship and hands-on experience. While you prepare for pastoral ministry, we want to give you a supportive community, real-world ministry experience, mentoring, and financial help.
Candidates need to be well on their way to meeting the scriptural requirements for elder in Titus 1 and 1 Timothy 3.
A 1–4 year residency includes:
Scholarship. We’ll cover your tuition and books for every semester you’re here, up to $5,000 per year.
Housing when available in our Intern House, including rent and utilities. Currently we have room for 2 more single male students.
Mentoring. You’ll spend time with our pastor at his table, in his study, and on pastoral duties like visits and meetings.
Regular Preaching Appointments. At regular intervals, our preaching pastor will take the time he usually spends writing his sermon to work with you, helping you prepare your sermon and giving you feedback.
A Ministry Responsibility or Project. Depending on your gifting, we’ll find a ministry for you to lead or a project for you to work on. We’ll do our best to make this something challenging, a little beyond your current qualifications. This allows you to contribute and learn in an environment where it’s safe to make mistakes.
Young Leaders Cohort, a study group with all our developing leaders. Once a month after Church, our young leaders go to lunch, review the worship service, study leadership principles, and brainstorm about challenges we’re facing.
Course Credit if it meets your school’s requirements. We have good relationships with Southern Seminary, Southwestern Seminary, and Indinapolis Theological Seminary.
Please see the application at the bottom of this page if you’re interested.
Leadership Internships
Not all of tomorrow’s leaders are called to serve in pastoral roles. Our leadership internships are designed to give you a time of intentional discipleship toward leadership in Indy’s businesses, government bodies, and homes.
Mentoring. You’ll spend time with our pastor and his family around their table, talking about life, the Bible, and the areas you want to grow.
A Leadership Responsibility. We’ll give you a chance to lead something here in an environment where it’s safe to make mistakes. Depending on your skills and interested, that may be in kids ministry, music, digital media, or elsewhere.

Housing when available in our Intern House, including rent and utilities.
Calvary Intern House
When available, internships include housing. The church owns two houses next door to our campus, which we use to house interns and staff. Different opportunities are available depending on who lives there at the time. Right now, we have room for two more single male students. Internships and Residencies are still open to married students (and Internships to women), but without housing.
