Announcements

Starting next weekend, January 16-17th, we plan to resume prayer and preaching gatherings. We’re urging those who are at risk to stay home for a few more weeks until they can get the vaccine, and we’re holding a special Saturday service for those who aren’t going out much otherwise. Still, the new strain may force us to suspend worship yet again. Check your email inbox or our COVID page up top for the details.

Today is Day 10 of our 2021 Bible reading plan. Look for passages you’ve read over these last week in today’s worship order. We hope to continue in patterns like this through the year.

Prayer for our Nation

Family leaders, use whatever format of prayer works for your size group
Individuals, take a moment to pray alone

A few things to pray for:

  • Great wisdom for our leaders

  • A great movement of God’s Spirit

  • Repentance for our nation’s sins

  • An end to our unrest

Scripture Reading | Matthew 8:23-27

Read by Sarah Cook

23 And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. 24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. 25 And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” 26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”

Hymn of Adoration | How Great Thou Art

  1. O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder
    Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made,
    I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
    Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

    Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee;
    How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
    Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee;
    How great Thou art! How great Thou art!

  2. And when I think that God, His Son not sparing,
    Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
    That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
    He bled and died to take away my sin.

  3. When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
    And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
    Then I shall bow in humble adoration,
    And there proclaim: my God, how great Thou art!

Teaching | Acts 10:34-35

Scripture Reading | Matthew 9:9-13

Read by Sue Smith

9 As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.

10 And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 12 But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Hymn of Assurance | His Mercy is More

Praise the Lord
His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness new ev’ry morn,
Our sins they are many His mercy is more.

  1. What love could remember no wrongs we have done?
    Omniscient all knowing He counts not their sum.
    Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore,
    Our sins they are many His mercy is more.

  2. What patience would wait as we constantly roam?
    What Father so tender is calling us home?
    He welcomes the weakest the vilest the poor.
    Our sins they are many His mercy is more.

  3. What riches of kindness He lavished on us?
    His blood was the payment His life was the cost.
    We stood ‘neath a debt we could never afford.
    Our sins they are many His mercy is more.

Benediction

Based on Psalm 67:1-3

Leader or individual reads

May God be gracious to you and bless you and make his face shine upon you, that His way may be known on earth, His saving power among all nations.
Go and make disciples.
