March 22 Home Liturgy
Walk yourself or your home through a Sunday liturgy while we’re unable to gather in person.
Nothing on the internet could replace gathering with your church in worship of Jesus. This home liturgy is our way of shepherding you through an unusual season when, under God’s hand, we aren’t able to gather and worship him. It can be used to hold a private time of worship or to lead your family in worship. Just walk through it, read the readings aloud, sing the songs, listen to the teaching, and follow the instructions.
If you would like to use the companion print materials, you can download them here. It works best when everyone in the room has either a printout or a mobile device with this page open.
After watching the Getting Started video, it’s time to check in. Click here to email the church office with your name, how many people are worshiping in the room, where you are, and how the church can pray for you. Pastor Dave’s email will look like this:
Dave Cook, 6 total, in our living room in Greenwood, IN. Please pray that our children can form strong friendship even during a season of isolation.
God speaks, may all flesh hear him.
1 God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble at its swelling.
Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.
Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
Thy justice like mountains high soaring above
Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
To all life Thou givest, to both great and small
In all life thou givest, the true life of all
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree
And wither and perish, but not changest Thee.
Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
All praise we would render; O help us to see
'Tis only the splendor of light hideth thee!
Father, (I/we) worship you scattered this morning,
wishing (I was / we were) gathered with your people.
How (I/we) miss their voices, their handshakes, their faces.
Yet (I/we) know this ache will be filled.
While (I/we) wait to meet again with our church family,
(I/we) remember that you have promised your Son will return for us,
to gather us together finally, fully, and forever.
Oh God, how we long especially now for that day.
Would you bring soon the day of our hope.
Come quickly, Lord Jesus.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns.
6 The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
A wonderful Savior to me;
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
Where rivers of pleasure I see.
Refrain:
He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock,
That shadows a dry, thirsty land;
He hideth my life in the depths of His love,
And covers me there with His hand,
And covers me there with His hand.
A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord,
He taketh my burden away,
He holdeth me up and I shall not be moved,
He giveth me strength as my day.
With numberless blessings each moment He crowns,
And filled with His fullness divine,
I sing in my rapture, oh, glory to God!
For such a Redeemer as mine.
When clothed with His brightness transported I rise
To meet Him in clouds of the sky,
His perfect salvation, His wonderful love,
I’ll shout with the millions on high.
8 Come, behold the works of the Lord,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
10 “Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Christ the sure and steady anchor,
In the fury of the storm;
When the winds of doubt blow through me,
And my sails have all been torn.
In the suffering, in the sorrow,
When my sinking hopes are few;
I will hold fast to the anchor,
It will never be removed.
Christ the sure and steady anchor,
While the tempest rages on;
When temptation claims the battle,
And it seems the night has won.
Deeper still then goes the anchor,
Though I justly stand accused;
I will hold fast to the anchor,
It shall never be removed.
Christ the sure and steady anchor,
Through the floods of unbelief;
Hopeless somehow, O my soul, now,
Lift your eyes to Calvary.
This my ballast of assurance,
See his love forever proved.
I will hold fast to the anchor,
It will never be removed.
Christ the sure and steady anchor,
As we face the wave of death;
When these trials give way to glory,
As we draw our final breath.
We will cross that great horizon,
Clouds behind and life secure;
And the calm will be the better,
For the storms that we endure.
Christ the sure of our salvation,
Ever faithful, ever true!
We will hold fast to the anchor,
It shall never be removed.

If you aren’t part of Calvary, this is a good time to find your home church’s online giving portal.
Finally, if you don’t have a home church, let this liturgy be our gift to you. Rather than giving financially, spend this time in prayer for our church.
Father in Heaven, (I/we) give this gift to say that you are the giver of all life and wealth. May every person and spiritual creature who sees know that you are the giver of all. Amen.

Psalm 42
To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah.
[1] As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
[2] My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?
[3] My tears have been my food
day and night,
while they say to me all the day long,
“Where is your God?”
[4] These things I remember,
as I pour out my soul:
how I would go with the throng
and lead them in procession to the house of God
with glad shouts and songs of praise,
a multitude keeping festival.
[5] Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation [6] and my God.
My soul is cast down within me;
therefore I remember you
from the land of Jordan and of Hermon,
from Mount Mizar.
[7] Deep calls to deep
at the roar of your waterfalls;
all your breakers and your waves
have gone over me.
[8] By day the LORD commands his steadfast love,
and at night his song is with me,
a prayer to the God of my life.
[9] I say to God, my rock:
“Why have you forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy?”
[10] As with a deadly wound in my bones,
my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me all the day long,
“Where is your God?”
[11] Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God. (ESV)
Where were the Sons of Korah usually working?
How would you describe the Psalmist's problem?
What are your favorite parts of being together in Sunday Worship?
The Psalmist had hope that God would bring him home to Jerusalem to worship again. What hope do Christians have when we are scattered? Check 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and Revelation 21-22 if you aren't sure.
The Psalmist shows he was suffering grief, discouragement, and heartache while he was away from the Temple and his life was threatened. What emotions are you suffering while our church is scattered and our lives are threatened? If you're in a group, talk for a while about what the experience has been like for you.
In verses 5 and 11, the Psalmist repeats the truth he needs to hear. What truth do you need to repeat to yourself over and over this week?
End your time of worship with these “good words.” (Bene-diction)
Hope in God, for (I/we) shall again praise him, our salvation and our God. Amen.
Remember to call the church office with any prayer requests. If you’re able, spend some time tonight praying though the most recent version of the prayer list. We’ll gather again one day!
