Opening Word

After watching the Opening Word video, it’s time to check in. Click here to email the church office with your name, how many people are worshiping in the room, where you are, and how the church can pray for you.


Opening Scripture Reading: Psalm 27:1-4

Individual or Group Reads:

1 The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When evildoers assail me
to eat up my flesh,
my adversaries and foes,
it is they who stumble and fall.
3 Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war arise against me,
yet I will be confident.
4 One thing have I asked of the LORD,
that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to inquire in his Temple.


It Is Well With My Soul

Prayer of Hope

Good Shepherd,
Restless, your flock looks to you for rest.
Afraid, (I/we) look to you for courage.
Wavering, (I/we) look to you for faith.
Would you call now to (my/our) mind(s)
The ways you have guided (me/us) before
Your protective presence with (me/us) now
And the great land to which you will lead (me/us).

Christ is Mine Forevermore 

  1. Mine are days that God has numbered
    I was made to walk with Him

    And forsake the King of kings

Teaching: Psalm 23

Psalm 23 (ESV)

A Psalm of David. 

 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 
 He makes me lie down in green pastures. 
He leads me beside still waters.
 He restores my soul. 
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, 
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
 You prepare a table before me 
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me 
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.


Bring It Home Questions

Use these questions to lead a discussion or a time of private meditation on today’s Scriptures. 

  1. In verses 1-3 what past benefits is the sheep looking back on?

  2. What stories can you tell of how God has provided for you and protected you in the past?

  3. In verse 4, the sheep admits he is in a dangerous situation. How does he say he feels during it? Why?

  4. How do you notice God protecting you now?

  5. As the stay-at-home order has begun, have you noticed any habits that are causing you fear or anxiety?

  6. The sheep finally looks forward to the rich provisions of home. What details about Heaven or the New Kingdom do you most look forward to? Read Revelation 19:6-9 or Revelation 21-22 if you need help. 


Family Prayer

Before closing, ask those with you if there is anything they would like to pray for. Then offer a prayer for everyone’s requests in the room and for the list below. You can pray the whole prayer yourself or ask some in the room to pray for different things. 

  • For God to glorify his name during this crisis

  • For the safety of everyone in the Indianapolis area, including your neighbors

  • For essential “front lines” workers like medical workers and first responders

  • For wisdom and endurance for our leaders
