Opening Scripture Reading – Psalm 19:1-6

Individual or Group Reads:

1 The heavens declare the glory of God,
And the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech,
And night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
And, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising Is from the end of the heavens,
And Its circuit to the end of them,
And there Is nothing hidden from Its heat.

10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)

(Refrain)
Bless the Lord O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name

  1. The sun comes up it's a new day dawning
It's time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

  2. You're rich in love and You're slow to anger
Your name is great and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

  3. And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

Prayer of Hope and Assurance

Leader or Individual Prays:

Creator God,
as we gaze upon your beauty in creation,
we stand in awe of your power and glory.

We see the stars, the clouds, the trees,
and worship you as the Maker of all.

Without your hands forming us,
we would remain dust on the earth.

Without your breath in us
we would remain lifeless,

Without your Spirit's awakening,
we would remain dead in our sin.

We look to your Son, Jesus Christ,
the Second Adam who came to redeem your people from their sin.

We worship him who gives us new life from the grave.
Amen.

Scripture Reading – Hebrews 2:5-9

Individual or Group Reads:

5 For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking. 6 It has been testified somewhere,

"What is man, that you are mindful of him,
Or the son of man, that you care for him?
7 You made him for a little while lower than the angels;
you crowned him with glory and honor,
8 putting everything in subjection under his feet."

Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing outside his control. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. 9 But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery

  1. Come behold the wondrous mystery
In the dawning of the King
He the theme of heaven's praises
    Robed in frail humanity

In our longing, in our darkness
Now the light of life has come
    Look to Christ, who condescended
Took on flesh to ransom us

  2. Come behold the wondrous mystery
He the perfect Son of Man
In His living, in His suffering
Never trace nor stain of sin

See the true and better Adam
Come to save the hell-bound man
Christ the great and sure fulfillment
Of the law; in Him we stand

  3. Come behold the wondrous mystery
Christ the Lord upon the tree
In the stead of ruined sinners
    Hangs the Lamb in victory

See the price of our redemption
    See the Father's plan unfold
    Bringing many sons to glory
    Grace unmeasured, love untold

  4. Come behold the wondrous mystery
Slain by death the God of life
But no grave could e'er restrain Him
Praise the Lord; He is alive!

    What a foretaste of deliverance
    How unwavering our hope
    Christ in power resurrected
As will we be when he comes

Psalm 8 (ESV)
To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
9 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Bring It Home Questions

Use these questions to lead a discussion or a time of private meditation on today’s Scriptures.

  1. Take turns describing different beauties in God’s creation that you’ve seen recently, either on the earth or in the sky.

  2. Talk about a time when you felt small in comparison to some aspect of God’s creation.

  3. What are some of your favorite songs to sing in worship of God our Creator?

  4. Where do you see examples of people ruling over creation, but doing it poorly?

  5. Many in the world want to care for the earth but struggle to find a reason why. What reason do Christians have for caring for the earth?

Family Prayer

Before closing, ask those with you if there is anything they would like to pray for. Then offer a prayer for everyone’s requests in the room and for the list below. You can pray the whole prayer yourself or ask some in the room to pray for different things.

  • For God to glorify his name during this crisis

  • For the safety of everyone in the Indianapolis area, especially front lines workers

  • Wisdom for the committee writing our reopening policies

  • For a quick economic recovery
