Call to Worship – Psalm 89:5-8

All Read Together:

5 Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord,
your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones!
6 For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord?
Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord,
7 a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones,
and awesome above all who are around him?
8 O Lord God of hosts,
who is mighty as you are, O Lord,
with your faithfulness all around you?

Hymn of Adoration – Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise

  1. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
    In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
    Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
    Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.

  2. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
    Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
    Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above
    Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

  3. Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
    Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
    All praise we would render; O help us to see
    ‘Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee!

Call to Confession – Psalm 130:1-4

Leader Reads:

1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord!
2 O Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleas for mercy!
3 If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
4 But with you there is forgiveness,
that you may be feared.

Prayer of Confession

Leader Reads:

In awe and assurance, may we confess our sins to the Lord who is faithful to forgive.

All confess sins silently to the Lord.

Hymn of Assurance – His Mercy Is More

  1. What love could remember no wrongs we have done?
    Omniscient all knowing He counts not their sum.
    Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore,
    Our sins they are many His mercy is more.

  2. What patience would wait as we constantly roam?
    What Father so tender is calling us home?
    He welcomes the weakest the vilest the poor.
    Our sins they are many His mercy is more.

  3. What riches of kindness He lavished on us?
    His blood was the payment His life was the cost.
    We stood ‘neath a debt we could never afford.
    Our sins they are many His mercy is more.

    Praise the Lord
    His mercy is more
    Stronger than darkness new ev’ry morn,
    Our sins they are many His mercy is more.

Sermon

Titus 1:10-16

10 For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party. 11 They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. 12 One of the Cretans, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” 13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, 14 not devoting themselves to Jewish myths and the commands of people who turn away from the truth. 15 To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled. 16 They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.

Hymn of Response – O Church Arise

  1. O church, arise and put your armor on;
    Hear the call of Christ our captain;
    For now the weak can say that they are strong
    In the strength that God has given.
    With shield of faith and belt of truth
    We’ll stand against the devil’s lies;
    An army bold whose battle cry is “Love!”
    Reaching out to those in darkness.

  2. Our call to war, to love the captive soul,
    But to rage against the captor;
    And with the sword that makes the wounded whole
    We will fight with faith and valor.
    When faced with trials on ev’ry side,
    We know the outcome is secure,
    And Christ will have the prize for which He died
    An inheritance of nations.

  3. Come, see the cross where love and mercy meet,
    As the Son of God is stricken;
    Then see His foes lie crushed beneath His feet,
    For the Conqueror has risen!
    And as the stone is rolled away,
    And Christ emerges from the grave,
    This vict’ry march continues till the day
    Ev’ry eye and heart shall see Him.

  4. So Spirit, come, put strength in ev’ry stride,
    Give grace for ev’ry hurdle,
    That we may run with faith to win the prize
    Of a servant good and faithful.
    As saints of old still line the way,
    Retelling triumphs of His grace,
    We hear their calls and hunger for the day
    When, with Christ, we stand in glory.
