Call to Worship – Psalm 34:1-3, 8-10

All Read Together:

1 I will bless the Lord at all times;
his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
let the humble hear and be glad.
3 Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt his name together!

8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
9 Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints,
for those who fear him have no lack!
10 The young lions suffer want and hunger;
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

Hymn of Adoration – Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing

  1. Come, Thou Fount of ev’ry blessing;
    Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
    Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
    Call for songs of loudest praise.
    Teach me some melodious sonnet,
    Sung by flaming tongues above;
    Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
    Mount of Thy redeeming love.

  2. Hither to Thy love has blest me;
    Thou hast brought me to this place;
    And I know Thy hand will bring me
    Safely home by good grace.
    Jesus sought me when a stranger,
    Wand’ring from the fold of God.
    He, to rescue me from danger,
    Interposed His precious blood.

  3. Oh to grace how great a debtor
    Daily I’m constrained to be!
    Let Thy goodness like a fetter,
    Bind my wand’ring heart to Thee.
    Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
    Prone to leave the God I love;
    Here’s my heart, O take and seal it;
    Seal it for Thy courts above.

  4. Oh that day when freed from sinning,
    I shall see Thy lovely face;
    Full arrayed in blood-washed linen
    How I’ll sing Thy sovereign grace.
    Come, my Lord, no longer tarry,
    Bring Thy promises to pass;
    For I know Thy pow’r will keep me
    Till I’m home with Thee at last.

Call to Confession - Psalm 32:1-5

Leader reads:

1 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered.
2 Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;
my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.
5 I acknowledged my sin to you,
and I did not cover my iniquity;
I said, “I will confess my transgression to the LORD,”
and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Prayer of Confession

Leader reads:

Like the Psalmist, let us acknowledge our sins and confess them to the Lord who is faithful to forgive.

All confess sins silently to the lord.

Hymn of Assurance – I Have A Peace

  1. I have a peace I can’t explain
    That goes beyond the sorrow
    For there’s a truth I can’t erase
    Your love is my tomorrow
    Through deepest loss, through highest gains
    I have a brighter treasure
    The grass will die, the flower fade
    But God is mine forever

  2. I have a peace when fears arise
    And waters roar around me
    Through many storms and sleepless nights
    A quiet grace surrounds me
    I know not what the future holds
    I know who holds the future
    When all I fear is all that’s true
    Your perfect love is truer

  3. I have a peace with God and man
    For you have reconciled me
    I was at war, you came, a friend
    To serve and stand beside me
    Though wounds are deep and anger burns
    You showed me true forgiveness
    So I’ll extend what I have learned
    The gift the peace of God is

    Through deepest loss, through highest gains
    I have a brighter treasure
    The grass will die, the flower fade
    But God is mine forever

Sermon

Titus 1:6

5 This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you— 6 if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. 7 For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, 8 but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. 9 He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

The Lord’s Supper

Deacons will be by to hand out individually-wrapped communion supplies. They are tricky to open, so listen for instructions from the front. If taking the Supper would be too great a risk to your health, spend this time instead in meditation on Jesus’s sacrifice made for you.

Before we take the Supper together, ask yourself two questions:

1- Does my lifestyle confirm that my faith in Jesus is genuine?
When Jesus changes our lives at the root, the difference can be seen in the fruit. If you don’t look to Jesus alone for forgiveness before God, or if the way you live makes you wonder if you’re really a Christian, choose not to take the Supper but to spend the time in prayer, asking God to work in your heart.

2- Am I aware of any sin I don’t want to turn from?
The Bible calls us to examine ourselves, because it is a frightful thing to take something so holy while refusing to turn from sin. If you’re aware of a sin in your life that you aren’t willing to turn from, spend this time asking God to give you strength to fight temptation.

Hymn of Response – The Church’s One Foundation

The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ, her Lord;
She is His new creation, by Spirit and the Word;
From heav’n He came and sought her to be His holy bride;
With His own blood He bought her, and for her life He died.

Elect from ev’ry nation, yet one o’er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation: one Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses, with ev’ry grace endued.

‘Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war,
She waits the consummation, of peace forevermore;
Till with the vision glorious, her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious, shall be the Church at rest.

Benediction

Leader:

May you go forth strengthened to follow Christ your Great Shepherd.
Go and make disciples.
