Home Worship Guide

Good Morning!

Use this form to let us know you’re there

To make things easier, all the videos are also on this YouTube playlist. This is for those of you who put the video on one screen and look at the words on another, or who want to have the video and words in separate windows.

Announcements

Our current prayer is that we can begin gathering again on January 17th. Let’s pray that spread continues to slow (as it has over the last two weeks) through the holidays.

The church voted this month to affirm Paul Webb as a deacon and to affirm the 2021 Budget. Both measures will take effect on January 1.

It’s time to commit to reading the Bible with us next year and make a plan. Here are the steps to take to get the most out of it.

  1. Make your commitment here.

  2. Choose the Bible you’ll use and get a copy of the plan. If you’re using a digital device, your Bible app is likely to have the M’Cheyne plan in it. If you use a print Bible, print out the plan in one sheet or as a set of bookmarks.

  3. Make a plan for when, where, and how you’ll read each day. If you’re looking for a good habit to make daily Bible reading meaningful, here’s a video of what Pastor Dave does.

  4. Choose which resources would be helpful to you and subscribe to them. You can listen to a daily podcast that explains one of the day’s readings (Apple | RSS | Stitcher), a daily email newsletter, or a print book (all three have the same words).

  5. Start reading on January 1! When something really puzzles you, email it Dave@cbcGreenwood.com. We’ll try to make YouTube videos based on your questions throughout the year.

Advent Hymn | O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

Paul Webb, Karen Towles, Sandy Phelps, and Dave Cook on Vocals
Sue Mann on Piano

Sing a Carol Together

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
and ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here,
until the Son of God appear.

O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer
our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
and death’s dark shadows put to flight.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel!

O come, Desire of nations, bind
all peoples in one heart and mind.
Bid envy, strife, and quarrels cease;
fill the whole world with heaven’s peace.

Scripture Reading

Luke 1:33-35

33 And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him. 34 And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed 35 (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”

Read by Josiah Cook

Teaching

Luke 6:46-49 – House Upon the rock

46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?
47 Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49 But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”

Scripture Reading

Luke 1:36-38

Read by Lydia Cook

36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, 37 and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. 38 And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.

Advent Hymn

Joy to the world! the lord is come

Paul Webb, Karen Towles, Sandy Phelps, and Dave Cook on vocals.
Sue Mann on Piano.

  1. Joy to the World, the Lord is come!
    Let earth receive her King;
    Let every heart prepare Him room,
    And Heaven and nature sing,
    And Heaven and nature sing,
    And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

  2. Joy to the World, the Savior reigns!
    Let men their songs employ;
    While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
    Repeat the sounding joy,
    Repeat the sounding joy,
    Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

  3. He rules the world with truth and grace,
    And makes the nations prove
    The glories of His righteousness,
    And wonders of His love,
    And wonders of His love,
    And wonders, wonders, of His love.
